Frequently asked questions

Questions boiler brands and distributors ask us

The questions manufacturers, importers and wholesalers ask before hiring a go-to-market consultant for Canada, answered plainly, including what we will not do.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

These are the questions that come up most often when a boiler manufacturer, importer or distributor first talks to us. The short answers are above. The sections below add context on the four topics that decide whether working together makes sense: scope, money, ownership and limits.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does BoilerConsultants.ca do?

We plan and market the route a boiler line takes to Canadian installers: launch order by province, channel design, a linked map of provincial authorities, Quebec French readiness and dealer marketing. We are a marketing and business consulting service, not a contractor, distributor or certification body.

How much does it cost?

Ongoing marketing uses HVAC.Agency's published plans: Starter $2,998, Growth $4,498 and Elite $8,998 per month, plus GST/HST by province for Canadian clients. Strategy-only work is scoped and quoted in writing.

Do we have to sign a long contract?

The published plans carry no lock-in. Any notice period or project milestone for your engagement is written into your proposal before you agree.

How long before we see anything?

Written strategy deliverables usually arrive within a few weeks. Marketing results, such as locator enquiries and dealer activation, build over months and depend on the heating season, so we report monthly from the start.

We tried an agency before and it did not understand distribution. Why would this be different?

Most agencies market to homeowners for one contractor. We plan for a brand selling through partners, and we measure sell-through and dealer activation, not just clicks. Ask us to explain any recommendation in channel terms; if we cannot, do not hire us.

Who owns the website, locator and accounts you build?

You do. We set up domains, ad accounts, analytics and content in your name, and the ownership terms are written into your proposal. That matters for brands, because a dealer locator is a long-term asset.

Will you advise on product certification or pressure-equipment registration?

No. We list the authorities and link their official pages so your calendar accounts for them. Certification, design registration and code questions go to your certification body, the provincial authority and your qualified advisors.

Can you tell us what margin to offer distributors?

No. We help you compare channel routes and define what to measure, but commercial terms are yours to set with your own finance and legal advisors.

Do you help with Quebec's French-language rules?

We plan and produce French marketing assets and summarise what the OQLF publishes, with links. Questions on how the law applies to your company go to the OQLF or a Quebec lawyer.

Do you work with companies outside Canada?

Yes. Many boiler brands entering Canada are based abroad. We meet by video call or in person and work by phone, text and email, and Ali Sedighi has worked with clients in Canada, the USA and Dubai. Immigration, incorporation and tax questions belong with licensed Canadian professionals.

How do you report results?

Monthly, against the gates and measures in your plan: provinces opened, dealers trained and listed, locator enquiries per dealer, response times and sell-through where your distributor shares it.

Can you promise a number of dealers or units sold?

No. Outcomes depend on product, price, partners, competition and season. We promise a clear plan, honest measurement and early warning when something is off track.

Scope: what we do and do not do

We work on the commercial route from your product to Canadian installers. That means launch sequencing, channel strategy, regulatory mapping, Quebec French readiness and dealer marketing support.

We do not install, repair, inspect, certify or sell boilers. BoilerConsultants.ca provides business and marketing consulting, not engineering, mechanical design, inspection or code-compliance services. We also stay out of legal opinions, distributor margin advice and tax.

Money: how pricing is set

Ongoing marketing follows HVAC.Agency's published monthly plans, and websites follow its one-time packages. Strategy-only projects are quoted in writing because their size varies so much: a two-province first wave and a national network design are very different jobs. Every price is in Canadian dollars, plus GST or HST for Canadian clients according to their province (GST and QST in Quebec). The pricing page includes a worked first-year example.

Before you pay anything, the 7-day free trial (no credit card) points an audit, a site speed and performance check, SEO analysis and a competitor benchmark at your current Canadian presence.

Ownership: who keeps what

You keep everything we build for you: the domain, the locator, the content, the ad accounts and the analytics. For a brand this is not a detail. A dealer locator with years of regional pages and enquiry history is part of your Canadian market position, and it should never be held by an agency.

If a distributor co-funds the work, agree in writing who owns which assets before it starts.

Timing: when to bring us in

The most useful moment is before a distributor agreement is signed and before a launch date is announced. At that point every option is still open: the province order, the channel mix, the French workload and the dealer program can all be shaped together.

Brands also come to us later, usually when a launch has stalled. That works too, but the first job is diagnosis: which provinces are underperforming, whether the partner is stocking or selling, and whether dealers have what they need. Expect the first weeks to be spent reading your sell-through data rather than producing new marketing.

Working with your existing team

We do not replace your sales or marketing team. Most clients have a national sales lead, a product manager and someone responsible for marketing, often across several countries. We fit around them.

In practice that means:

  • One named contact on your side who owns the plan.
  • Monthly written updates that your team can forward without editing.
  • Clear hand-offs when work moves from strategy to execution, whether your team, your distributor or we run it.
  • No surprise tools or platforms; anything we set up is in your name.

If your distributor's marketing team is involved, we can include them in the monthly review, with your agreement.

If you are a distributor rather than a brand

Distributors adding a boiler line ask slightly different questions: how to train counter staff, which contractor accounts to approach first, and how to share marketing costs with the brand. The same services apply at a smaller scale, usually organised by branch and region rather than by province.

Limits: what we will not promise

We will not promise dealer counts, unit volumes, rankings or leads. We will promise that every recommendation is written down with its assumption and its source, and that you will see monthly numbers that show early whether the plan is working. Our published results are from installer-side HVAC work, and the results page explains what they do and do not prove for a brand.

If your question is not here, the contact page explains what to send. Call, text or email; we usually reply within one business day.
